Preserving and Expanding Open Space - Especially Along the Waterfront

Open space enhances the quality of life for all residents, whether that space is used for active recreation or passive enjoyment. The first time Emily spoke at a City Council meeting was in 2017 when the Council was considering the use of eminent domain to acquire Block 10 in SW Hoboken to double the size of the SW Park. Even though her home was in the middle of the City, Emily recognized the importance of acquiring additional open space for all neighborhoods.

She will continue to prioritize the need for open space options that provide parks and amenities for the community – especially as we see a demographic shift with an increasing number of families who are calling Hoboken home for the long term. Emily will also continue to assess what is needed to properly maintain the existing park spaces to ensure that the City keeps up with required updates for safety.

Emily continues to work with the Administration and NY Waterway to ensure that the final acquisition of the Union Dry Dock property is completed and built out for the planned Maritime Park – bringing Hoboken closer to the goal of a fully open and publicly accessible waterfront park.
