Actively Supporting Public Safety

Emily is proud to support a strong public safety department as a Hoboken parent, social worker, and dedicated public servant. Everyday parents and residents share their concerns about what they are seeing in our community and their thoughts on how we can work together to keep Hoboken safe. Following the multiple violent attacks that took place on Halloween of 2024, she put forward the following proposals in her email newsletter:

  • Funding for an updated surveillance camera system for Church Square Park.

  • Installation of the emergency blue light phone system in all City Parks and along the Waterfront, similar to the version that Hudson County installed in Columbus Park.

  • Additional funding for Park Patrols - a combination of both police officers and code enforcement officers who have the ability to monitor quality of life issues like smoking in our parks, as well as more serious concerns about safety.

Emily also voted in support of adding 10 additional police officers to the Table of Organization in 2024 following these incidents. Since the current Administration is actively in the process of negotiating new contracts with the two police unions (officers and supervisors), Emily has vocally recommended that signing bonuses should be added as way to better recruitment more new officers and stay competitive with other area communities in order to fully staff the Police Department.
